Why are you more thrilled about this particular holiday than any other you have been on before? Because this year, you are travelling to Prague, and you are travelling there at Christmas which means that you will be experiencing one of the most beautiful Christmas events in the whole of the world – the Christmas markets of Prague.
Open daily during the Christmas season, including on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day, the Christmas markets of Prague are one of the main attractions in the winter wonderland that takes over the Czech Republic during the Christmas season. The primary Christmas markets of Prague are situated in the Old Town Square and the Wenceslas Square, with a couple of smaller ones located at Havel’s Market and Republic Square. You may choose to see one or to see them all, but they are all just within a few minutes of each other so you needn’t worry about your transportation needs when spending a day at the markets.
The Christmas markets of Prague are truly impressive, injecting the entire city with joy and harmony, and bringing both tourists and locals together to enjoy the holiday spirit. It really is a wonderland, with its bright decorations on wooden huts that sell a wide range of handcrafted and traditional Czech products. You are sure to find almost anything that you could possibly dream of at the Prague Christmas markets, including:
- Jewellery,
- Metal-Ware,
- Scented Candles,
- Hats & Other Accessories,
- Ceramic Mugs & Plates,
- Traditional Wooden Toys,
- Bohemian Crystal,
- Embroidery,
- Dolls & Puppets, and, of course,
- Christmas Tree Decorations & Ornaments
While shopping may be your primary interest in the Christmas markets of Prague, it should be mentioned that the markets are not just appealing because of the great shopping that they provide their patrons. Not only can patrons shop until their heart is content at the markets, but they can also eat until their bellies are stuffed. Patrons of the Christmas markets can watch as traditional foods are prepared, and then they can gorge on all manner of local Czech food and drinks. Some of the many food stalls have savory fare like huge hams that roast on the spit, while others have more sweet treats. Patrons may find a large variety of Czech delicate treats and candies, such as Trdelnik, a warm sugar-coated pastry.
No matter the reason why you choose to visit the markets, the truth is that it is just simply an amazing place to see. If you are thinking about a trip to Prague for Christmas, stop thinking and start planning. Book a hotel in the city centre, skip the rental car, and find yourself on an amazing journey in the middle of a Christmas wonderland.

Prague is extremely charming. Its only downside, in my humble opinion, is that it has kinda dark atmosphere. But when it is lit up by those alive markets, it must be gorgeous!
I had no idea about Prague’s atmosphere for Christmas. Thanks!
Love Prague!! I was abroad there a few years ago and have been itching to go back ever since. Prague around the holiday times is just magical 🙂

Possibly worth a revisit at Christmas time? Glad you liked the article.
If I had to recommend a Christmas Market, there will be Vienna, Prague and Munich Christmas markets, these markets are the best from Europe, IMO… Great article! thanks.
Thanks, very useful tips.. It would be good to go to those cities this Christmas 🙂
