Trekking on the Amalfi Coast, Italy

The Amalfi Coast has no need for presentations: a most popular destination beloved all over the world, every year it receives hundreds of thousands of visitors looking for peace and relax in the small charming beaches over the coast.

But if you are looking for the most authentic experiences, you have to reach beyond the usual routine in Amalfi or Positano.

The Valle delle Ferriere Natural Reserve – established in 1972 to preserve about 445 hectares between Amalfi, Scala and Agerola – is the masterpiece of Monti Lattari National Park.

A path comes down from the Lattari mountain range to Amalfi, crossing woods, streams, waterfalls, and the abandoned paper factories which made the Amalfi hand made paper so popular in ancient times. Along the path you will encounter one of Italy’s oldest hydroelectric power station – still working – and many terraced lemon gardens whose bright yellow tones pose a wonderful challenge to the green from the hills and the the blue sea.

A nice trek of medium difficulty does not require any previous trekking experience, just a healthy body and some sporty attitude. Available also during the summer, the hottest temperature peaks are balanced by the path with the woods, while the streams offer themselves for some refreshment along the way.

The Gods’ Path is another trek connecting Agerola, a village in the hills, to Nocelle, Positano’s suburb clinging to Mount Pertuso. The name itself hints to the spectacularity of this route, of its breathtaking views over the whole Amalfi Coast and Capri.

The path is a pleasant walk, slightly downhill, with several picnic tables and benches, one of the most beautiful paths I have ever walked in Italy. It does not require specific gears and it is conveniently pointed out by the number 327.

I only suggest you to avoid the hottest hours since there are but a few trees. There is no way to restock on water along the way, but once you get to Nocelle you will find a bar with a panoramic terrace over Positano.
