Norway by Sea – The Best Views Over a Stunning Landscape

Norway has an immense coastline, stretching over 1300 nautical miles and offering some absolutely mesmerising destinations. The best way to see as much of this stunning landscape as possible will be from the ocean itself, and luckily there are some great cruise companies like Celebrity Cruises which offer the opportunity to visit Norway’s coastline.

Bergen, Norway

Bergen

The coastal town of Bergen is truly picturesque, with traditional wooden wharf houses lined along the coast, and cable cars ascending the nearby mountains of Floyen and Ulriken. Along with the beautiful wharf and majestic mountains, Bergen is also renowned for the nearby fjords of Hardangerfjord and Sognefjord.

Aelsund

Aelsund is famous for its beautiful views, and for good reason: this town is surrounded by water on all sides, with tall Art Nouveau style buildings crowded onto the outcrop of land jutting over the sea. In the town, the winding lanes lead to adventures and new experiences, and the views are of the nearby Sunnmøre Alps standing guard over the town.

Geiranger

This UNESCO World Heritage area is considered a ‘fairytale landscape’: a beautiful cavernous fjord surrounded by snow-capped mountains, waterfalls and verdant green forests. There are also some great pastimes in the surrounding landscapes: rafting, hiking and sightseeing among many others. Visit Dalsnibba or Flydalsjuvet to see amazing panoramic views of the surrounding areas, and you’ll truly understand why this is the jewel in the crown of the Norwegian fjords.

Stavanger

Along with the mountains of Preikestolen and Kjerag, there’s the stunning Lysefjord and the beaches in Jæren. This is a great area for cultural events such as outdoor dance performances, magic shows and music events, with a wide range of events happening throughout the year. It was the European Capital of Culture in 2008, and for good reason, with great opportunities in the surrounding area for outdoor activities.

Norway is a diverse and beautiful country, with amazing mountain ranges, hairpin roads and incredible fjords. With the best views available from sea, taking a cruise will show you phenomenal sights from a unique point of view.
